23. - 28. JULY 2018 - HJØRRING - DENMARK
flemming speaker IMG 0368

Thanks Flemming

Dana Cup and Fortuna Hjørring have lost one of its highly recognized and well respected employees.

Coach - Flemming Nielsen passed away on Saturday the 23rd of June - 63 years of age.

After a fantastic international playing career, Flemming decided to became a coach and that is what lead him to Fortuna Hjørring.

Flemming came to Hjørring in 2007 after many years within men's football, he was ready to try women's football. It ended up being a successful move.

After just 6 months work in Fortuna, the club started to see and feel Flemmings efforts. First he lead the women to be Cup Champions and then he set course after the Danish Championship, the clubs 6th Championship.

He brought it home in 2009 and his coaching strengths also ensured a second Danish Championship in 2010.

In 2011 he became the clubs U18 DM coach and talent manager.

Apart from doing his coaching job in the utmost professional manner, Flemming Nielsen also became a true club member - as they say in Fortuna - he had a "Green Fortuna Heart".

Flemming's experience from his professional football career in Germany also became a bonus for the club and the Dana Cup Hjørring. He joined the Dana Cup team and some of his tasks were to promote the Dana Cup and bring German teams to the tournament in Hjørring.

For many visiting guests, it was always a smiling reunion with the earlier German League player from Fortuna Køln when they came to Hjørring. Flemming also understood how to use his extreme football knowledge and experience when organizing training camps at the Dana Cup SportsCenter.

He was a true club member when he made himself available for the Dana Cup Hjørring. Among other things, it was Flemming's voice that supplemented the live-streaming from the final games and opening ceremony at the Dana Cup.

Before Flemming Nielsen came to Fortuna, he was a Danish National Team player in the 1970's and 1980's.

He was a former defensive player for OKS, Odense Boldklub, Fortuna Köln, South China FC in Hong Kong, AaB and Aalborg Freja.

He was also, among other things a coach for B1909 and FC Nordjylland and assistant coach and sports manager at Viborg FF.

And he coached at Nordjyllands Sports College.

In Fortuna and Dana Cup, Flemming Nielsen will be remembered with the greatest respect and gratitude.

Great experience for Copenhagen children!

Denmark's former Prime Minister - Helle Thorning-Schmidt and former Liverpool player - Daniel Agger will be sending two teams, a boys and a girls team from Copenhagen's west side to the Dana Cup in Hjørring.

As a part of the Save the Children project ”A Place for All" The Agger Foundation has secured that the two teams from Rosenhøj Boldklub will go to the Dana Cup in July.

The teams have just recently attended an official kick-off training session with Daniel Agger and Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Rosenhøj's playing fields in Hvidovre.

Dana Cup is Denmark's largest sporting event, attracting more than 20.000 participants each year from all around the World.

Daniel Agger secured that "A Place for All" came to Brøndby and Hvidovre and with open arms from the Dana Cup, he has made it possible for the two teams to come to the tournament in Hjørring between the 23rd and the 28th of July, 2018.

Not only with the children attend free of charge, they will be fully equipped with football clothes - proudly sponsored by New Balance Danmark.

Daniel Agger, who is also from the west side has collected funds to ensure that the Save the Children project "A Place for All" could exist within the Brøndby and Hvidovre Community. This has been achieved in partnership with Denmark's former Prime Minister - Helle Thorning-Schmidt, who today is the CEO for ”Save the Children International”. Their partnership is assisting the children in the community to be integrated in local leisure activities which can enhance their well-being in their growth.

”A Place for All” is for children aged between 5 and 12 years of age. A partnership between local football clubs, Save the Children local offices and more than 20 of the countries communities are supporting children with different social, cultural and health reasons who struggle to be included witin their local community.

The kick-off training is the kick-off signal to the Dana Cup, with just over a month to go before it all starts happening in Northern Denmark.

With the experience of taking part in the Dana Cup close at hand and a very special training with Helle and Daniel, the children were full of smiles and hapiness.

Helle Thorning-Schmidt is CEO for Save the Children International and Daniel Agger's reputation is undisputed, so the experience from the training session and the time spent together after training with autograph signing etc. was a huge experience for both the children and their parents.

Welcome 20.04.2018

New initiatives and events in 2018

Games are played on more than 60 beautiful green-grassed fields, on one of Northern Europe's finest arenas. There are short distances between the different arenas and fields and football is the major focus. That is the Dana Cup, known all around the World for putting on an international youth football tournament that runs like clockwork.

Young football players from more than 1.000 teams and 45 nations come from all over the world to play the amazing game of FOOTBALL! At the Dana Cup Hjørring, we offer a platform where young players get experience when they unite their passion for football with respect, togetherness, equality, friendship and much more.

Two top class Liverpool FC coaches will join us this summer, doing inspirational training sessions for our players and coaches. The sessions will focus on giving inspiration to players and coaches in their daily training. More information will be available soon, so keep posted, as your team can be a lucky winner of one of these inspirational sessions.

This summer we will have two Center Courts up and running, after the success in 2017. Last year we ran an 11-a-side center court on HI’s arena, which was a huge success. Now together with New Balance we will open up a new 7-a-side center court on Fortuna’s arena. It is here that Liverpool FC will do their sessions and there will be tournament games throughout the week.

The Dana Cup will also be prioritizing live streaming here in 2018. Over the latest years, we have sent live from the opening ceremony, from some single matches during the week and from all of the finals on Friday and Saturday. This summer we will also send live from the two center courts throughout the week, along with 7 to 8 other fields within the Dana Cup center area.  This will give people from all around the World the opportunity to follow more games on the sideline when we kick off in July. You will also be able to watch all the games and live streaming after the tournament from our channels.

The Dana Cup will once again make it possible for you to have some exciting experiences when there is a break between the matches. Our Event area in the center of Dana Cup will sum up a World Cup atmosphere with countless new activities.

Tell us your story - Chadwick International School Songdo - Korea Republic - B11

Tell us briefly the history of your club / team?

Chadwick International is looking forward to its inaugural adventure to Europe this summer, culminating in the Dana Cup 2018. Our team of 2007 birth year boys has been playing together for close to 3 years now.  They have played mainly in the international school competitions in Korea and have also represented Chadwick School as far away as Singapore.  This talented group of friends comes from many parts of the world.  Amongst our team, we have boys from Korea, Canada, Venezuela, Peru, Australia and the USA. As our team is made up of many international parts we were seeking a tournament that can provide quality in terms of the teams, organization, weather, pitches and a truly international experience.  All of that was easily found in Hjorring at the Dana Cup 2018.

Is it your first time in the Dana Cup if not how many times has your club participated?

Having played in the Dana Cup myself, I knew that late July in and around Hjorring would be the ideal trip for our families. As a 16 year old I got to experience my first taste of European soccer in the summer of 1988, watching Holland lift the European Championship and ending our trip at the Dana Cup.  Even as a teenager, I was aware of what a special tournament the Dana Cup is.  As kids we were able to meet other players from all over the world while staying at schools with many other teams, between the matches we were constantly mingling and making friends and the activities for the older players during the evenings were a blast.  Now 30 years later I cannot wait to see our youngsters getting to know other people, cultures, and customs while expanding their own soccer IQ.

What are your goals and expectations for the Dana Cup 2018?

I keep telling these boys they are amongst the most fortunate kids on earth to have supportive parents and communities that provide these types of opportunities, and I am sure once they experience their first Dana Cup they will all consider themselves very very lucky.

See you this July - Kely Jacobson - Chadwick International School Songdo

BOSTON – February 7, 2018 – Global athletic leader New Balance announces the launch of Fearlessly Independent Since 1906 – its new inspirational global brand communication platform that reflects the heritage and non-conventional values of the global sports company. The platform includes a new visual identity system with distinct typography and iconography across all of the brand’s global communication and distribution channels and will be brought to life to consumers for the first time through the integrated Declare Your Independence marketing campaign.

“At New Balance, we firmly believe that our marketing must be a reflection of our organizational values and realize our brand’s DNA through authentic content that inspires both individuality and confidence.  As a privately held company, New Balance has traditionally made purposeful choices like maintaining a limited portion of our domestic manufacturing that defy convention and demonstrate both courage and independence,” says Chris Davis, New Balance Vice President of Global Marketing.  “In all that we do, our goal is to lead with character, create product with unparalleled quality and innovation, and set new, elevated standards in our global communities.”

The Declare Your Independence campaign debuts February 7th and showcases the unique character of the brand through seven New Balance ambassadors including Francisco Lindor, Rose Lavelle, Paul Rabil, Jurgen Klopp, Brenda Martinez and PJ Ladd, illustrating how they define independence for themselves.  Available at newbalance.com and via the brand’s social and YouTube channels, the campaign includes long and short films that highlight how these world-class individuals have stood up to convention through their independent style, determination and unparalleled persona.

“Today’s society is often defined by conformist actions and we believe consumers are looking for authentic, real brands that defy convention,” says Davis.  “We want to recognize and celebrate the notion of individuality through true independents who are changing the game. Our goal is to inspire consumers across the globe to unleash the best version of themselves,” says Davis.

The campaign is being amplified via global media companies Bleacher Report, Refinery29 Uninterrupted and Vice, amongst others. These media outlets will deliver rich documentary-style films, compelling articles and social videos around New Balance athletes Francisco Lindor, Temba Bevuma, Brenda Martinez and Paul Rabil. These inspiring stories focus on how these top-tier athletes overcame challenges and defied standards to change their game.

The social elements of the campaign highlight the independent nature of New Balance athletes, inspire consumers to state how they declare independence from the expected, stand up to challenges ahead, and set themselves apart from the status quo using the hashtag #FearlesslyIndependent.

Global marketing agency VML created the brand’s global Fearlessly Independent Since 1906 communication platform and visual identity system. Ace Content of NYC, created the Declare Your Independence campaign.

Declare Your Independence Campaign Background:

Declare Your Style – Cleveland shortstop Francisco Lindor arrived in American at age 12 from Puerto Rico unable to speak English. Now a confident and charismatic All Star, Lindor’s never forgotten his Puerto Rican roots and remains true to his strength of character and unique sense of style — something he brings to everything he does.

Declare Your Drive –Paul Rabil is considered by some to be the #1 lacrosse player in the world. Deeply passionate about growing his sport, he is involved in the business of lacrosse as much as playing it; constantly growing it and doing everything he can both on and off the field to drive its future.

Declare Your Future – Dedicating herself to learning every aspect of the game, American soccer player Rose Lavelle made education of equal importance in her training.  Instead of dropping out of college to go pro, Lavelle kept her academics on par with her sport and conquered both.

Declare Your Character – Jurgen Klopp has always had soccer in his blood. After spending 15 years as a professional player, he found his true calling in inspiring others to greatness as the manager of one of the world’s most storied football clubs, Liverpool FC.

Declare Your Path – Middle-distance world medalist runner Brenda Martinez grew up with humble means in a California community.  Her passion started through a running club despite only having cut-off jeans and shoes too big for her feet.  Martinez hosts running camps for young girls to give them the chances she didn’t have growing up.

Declare Your Victory - PJ Ladd has been innovating in the world of skateboarding since he was 8 and growing up in Boston.  Despite long months of unfriendly skate weather, Ladd continued to practice under adverse conditions, using the inside of his father’s auto body garage for refuge.

Declare Your Craft - The film features a New Balance worker stitching an athletic shoe at the company’s Lawrence, MA factory as a nod to the brand’s long-standing commitment to maintaining a portion of its manufacturing in the United States.

*The anthem video’s soundtrack is by Los Angeles-based NVDES, a multi-genre art music project by Josh Ocean that creates songs through freeform creative jam sessions that allows each song to have its own unique elements.
