JR - John Robert Larsen - has passed away

Fortuna and Dana Cup have lost an enthusiast who, more than 50 years ago started to set the stage for women's football in Hjørring and 36 years ago initiated the International Youth Soccer Tournament - Dana Cup Hjørring - which has proved to be one of the Worlds largest and a huge asset, not only for youth football but also for Hjørring City and the whole region.

John Robert Larsen, who became known throughout the world as "JR" has passed away, 75 years old. 10 years ago he lost his wife Gerda. He is survived by his sons Jimmy and Tommy.

JR was born and raised in Toftegade, Hjørring. A lot of football was played in the street and when he reached an appropriate age it was only natural that he was registered with the football club, AIK Hjørring FREM. JR was not that old when his interest and talent for managment and leadership started to blossom. All of a sudden he was a trainer, board member and much more. Football was a huge part of his life but he also took time to do his education.
JR studied at the timber company, Møller Lee. After his studies there he wanted to try something different, so he started a job at the Hirtshals Fish Auction. It was at this time in Hirthals that JR got the idea to start the Dana Cup and the first tournament took place in 1982. This happened 20 years after he was the initiator for the women's football club, Fortuna. It was Fortuna who created the Dana Cup. The club wanted to move forward and that needed more money than could be collected by a traditional bingo game.

In the start, the Dana Cup was of a size that JR could also keep his job at the fish auction. Without the full knowledge of the auction master, he had contact with clubs all around the world. However, in 1984 there was so much Dana Cup work that JR became employed full time for the Dana Cup. JR had an amazing ability to unite people around him and his energy and initiative was infective and everything flourished. The same with the Dana Cup and it gave Fortuna the opportunity for better results. These were organizations characterized by cohesion.

Fortuna and Dana Cup became JR’s life. Here he spent most of his time - as Manager of Fortuna and Director of the Dana Cup. His engagement in Fortuna, brought him in contact with the entire Danish Football Community and he became an institution for women's football. He was honored with DBU's Silver Pin and of course and Honorary Member of Fortuna Hjørring.

JR fought to make the Dana Cup international and he succeeded. In particular, Brazilian football players were close to his heart.
Dana Cup put him in contact with the whole world. Whether they came to the Dana Cup from Brazil, Canada, Russia, Nigeria, Australia or Scandinavia it was always JR they wanted to say hello to and talk with. Just as much as the Dana Cup has become an institution within the football world, JR became the same.

When JR stopped his daily work at the Dana Cup in 2012, he remained active in Dana Cup's background, where his experience was invaluable and greatly appreciated and to such an extent that he was appointed "Honorary President".
During the busy football season in the 80's, JR had a little time for some council work. At that time it was a little too stagnant for JR's temperament. In recent years he resumed his activities in local politics and this time he was warmly welcome within his group in the city council hall. The Social Democracy and Hjørring City Council could now enjoy and benefit from his local insight.

Releases fresh colours of Visaro and Furon

Striking new colour boots for players who ‘Dictate the play’ or ‘Devastate the defence’

New Balance Football reveals fresh and striking colour updates of the Furon 3.0 and Visaro 2.0 boot collections. The new colour Furon features a combination of Bolt and Royal Blue, with Energy Red accents across the upper and studs, giving it a stand out look. The Visaro has been updated with a Black finish to the upper, with Bolt Blue highlights on the laces soleplate and studs.

Furon 3.0 is designed for players that step onto the pitch for a single, momentous opportunity, defining the outcome of a game by devastating the opposition’s defence. The boots have been designed with accuracy and acceleration in mind. A lightweight-engineered hybrid mesh with zonal support frame allows a cleaner strike for deadly finishing. Engineered with a lightweight TPU/Polyester mesh upper for explosive power and ball feel, the Furon encompasses a Fantom Fit selective melt process which forms fused areas on the boot for increased durability, structure and support around the foot. A data designed REVlite foam insert provides directional in-boot traction, targeted for acceleration motions and cushioning. Furon players Jesus Navas and Kevin Mirallas will debut the new colour boots in-match this weekend.
Complementing this release is a new colourup for the Visaro 2.0 boot. Visaro players take to the pitch for one reason; to dictate the play. With movement, passing accuracy and game changing creativity, they influence the game everywhere, all the time. The Visaro features data driven Hexaprene control and strike zones and an athlete inspired pro form last. A one piece form fitting moccasin construction helps to deliver ultra-precise long and short passing, as well as game changing invention. Data driven multi-directional stud placement, an engineered soleplate with lightweight chassis, and Fresh Foam midsole unit all contribute to outstanding dynamic maneuverability and enhanced comfort.
General Manager of New Balance Football Richard Wright said, “We’ve see a great reception to Furon 3.0, and we’ve worked closely with our players to develop this next colourway of Furon and Visaro. It’s a clean and bold set of colours which will be instantly recognisable on the pitch and we’re sure that pro and park players alike will really like them.”

The new Furon and Visaro boots will be available globally at:
from 2 November 2017.

Düren-Niederau Best Club 2017

Once again Düren-Niederau from Germany has been named best club at the Dana Cup. Best club is awarded on the basis of wins won in the group stage, knockout phase and the final.

Randesund IL (NOR) – Vidar FK (NOR) 2-0 (1-0)

Pequeninos do Jockey (BRA) – HamKam FB (NOR) 2-1 (2-1)

With two shots on target within the first 30 seconds, the defending Dana Cup Champions in class B14, Pequeninos do Jockey from Brazil, emphasised that the club wanted to bring the trophy back home to Sao Paolo for the fifth consecutive year and 12th time in total.

When the Brazilians went in front after just four minutes, most people thought that they would witness a true samba show. However, Norwegian HamKam thought differently and when the Brazilian goalkeeper could not hold on to the ball, it was easy to equalise in the empty goal.

Then, the Brazilians’ best player with number 19 scored a few minutes later.
The goal spree failed to materialize, but some of the Brazilian players showed great skills, not seen before in the finals, and HamKam was definitely a worthy opponent.

Kolbotn IL (NOR) – Viking FB (NOR) 0-1 (0-1)

While Viking’s girls in class G15 were unable to defend the colours of the club successfully in the final, the team in class G14 was able to lift the trophy after 40 minutes of position warfare against Kolbotn IL, who was also from Norway.

Both teams had vast difficulties creating any goal scoring chances and, thus, it came as no surprise that Vikings’ goal in the first half was actually an own goal.

Both teams worked hard and Kolbotn’s players also seemed happy about winning silver.

Djerv 1919 (NOR) – Egersunds IK (NOR) 3-0 (1-0)

After three minutes of play, an own goal helped Djerv 1919 against Egersunds IK in the Norwegian final in class B19. But it took 30 minutes before Djerv got into gear and played some structured football.

Both teams tended to kick long balls instead of putting a lot of pressure on the opponents but with two cautious defences in place, it was easy to head or kick the ball back, so despite a 3-0 win there was a lack of goal scoring chances.

When Djerv went in front 2-0, Egersunds had no countermove and, accordingly, the victory was never at risk and the 3-0 goal was only extra colouring for a hard fought match.
