Referee Information - 2008

1. Invitation to participate in Dana Cup
Referees – Danish and international – are invited to Hjørring, to referee in Denmark’s largest Youth Soccer Tournament that takes place from the 21st to the 26th July 2008.

Every year around 800 teams participate in our tournament.
Around 2000 games will be played, including around 200 with neutral lines people.

To be able to complete all of these games we require around 200 referees.

In the following paragraphs you can read the necessary information for referees who participate in Dana Cup.

On our homepage you can find information about Hjørring and its surrounding areas, where the games are played, the tournament itself, the tournament rules and the different (boy/girl) classes participants compete in.
You can also find information on previous winners, which shows that our tournament has a truly international flavour. You can also find a lot of other interesting information about Dana Cup.

Referees from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, England, Germany and many other countries come together each year to participate in our tournament.
A majority of the referees return to Hjørring year after year to relive the tournaments positive atmosphere, as well as to reunite with friends they have made in earlier years.

2. Registration
If you wish to participate in Dana Cup simply fill out the registration form, available on our homepage, and send it to us by the 15th of April 2008.

3. Arrival
As soon as you arrive at the Dana Cup you can register at the Referee Office in the Vendia Hall.
You can also go straight to your place of accommodation and register later at the Information meeting.

In May, Dana Cup will send a written confirmation of your participation.

4. Accommodation
Referees are offered accommodation in a Sports hall in Hjørring, where you are supplied with a mattress and a blanket. Remember to take a sleeping bag with you.
You are not required to pay for this accommodation.

Another option is that you can bring your own caravan or tent, which you can set up at Dana Cups Camping Place.
You are not required to pay for this accommodation.

If you decide to take your family with you to Hjørring then the option of a caravan or tent is probably the best.

There is also the option of renting a caravan, just contact Morten Christensen at gummiben@has.dk in good time before the tournament.

The Badminton hall and the camping place can be located on the map over the centre of Hjørring.

5. Provisions etc
Referees eat free of charge during the tournament - three meals a day. The first meal is Monday evening and the last is Saturday lunch. Referees eat in the tent located behind the Vendia Hall.

Members of a referee’s family can buy a single meal card for 30 Danish kroner or for 300 Danish kroner they can buy a meal card for the whole week (the same meals as the referees).
Eating tickets/cards need to be bought in the Referees office in the Vendia Hall.

Children can swim at the Hjørring Swimming pool for free. Entrance cards can be picked up at the Information center in the Vendia Hall.

6. Honorarium
As well as free accommodation and meals, referees receive 50 Danish kroner per match they referee.

Honorarium fees can be picked up from the Referees Office on Friday.

7. Referee Groupings
Referees are placed into 3 groups, with the initial groupings decided from the refereeing level in their own domestic tournaments.
These groupings are the starting point from which the referee appointments are decided.

Vendsyssel Referee Club and Dana Cup will work together on refereeing appointments.
The agreement between these two parties is that the referees for the finals will be appointed from the highest ranked referees that participate in our tournament.

8. Allocation of games
Every day after 4 pm you can find out what games you will be refereeing the next day. You do this by presenting yourself at the Referees Office in the Vendia Hall.
You can find out what games you are refereeing on Tuesday by attending the Information meeting in the Bingo Hall on Monday.

9. Field Numbers – Bus transport
Games are played on 45-50 different fields, most of them in the Central area.
14 of the fields are located in “the middle area” (on the outskirts of Hjørring – 3-4 km from the central area). The rest of the fields (12 all together) are located further from Hjørring – 6-10km.

It is possible to use the Dana Cup busses out to the fields that are not located in the Central area. Busses leave from the bus stations located on Hestkærvej, in the Central area, to these fields. Bus transport is free.

10. Starting times for games
The first games start Tuesday morning at 7.30 am and the last game on Tuesday finishes at 9.30 pm.
The same starting and ending times are valid for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

On all of the 7 a-side fields in the Central area, as well as all fields in the middle and outer areas games start an hour later.

On Saturday there are only A and B finals played.

11. Starting games on time
On many of the fields there are to be played up to 17 games a day.
It is very important that you are at the field in good time and are ready to start the game at the delegated time as stated in the tournament plan/result card.

We have decided that a game will still be played if a team arrives late for the start – they have only 10 minutes after the designated starting time to be on the field ready to play. We expect referees to adhere to this decision.

12. Playing rules
Dana Cup adheres to FIFA’s and DBU’s rules with regards to changes/substitutions that can be found in the Dana Cup’s Tournament Rules. You can find these rules on Dana Cup’s homepage.

13. Penalty shootouts (finals)
Only players, who are on the field at the end of the game or after extra time, can participate in the penalty shoot-out. Both teams must become the same number of players.

Thursday: All penalty shoot-outs are held on specially closed off areas by another referee.
In the games that start 8.20pm and 8.30pm, the penalty shoot-outs take place on the field that the game (and extra time) is played on by that referee.

You can see the placement of the special penalty shoot-out areas under Playing fields in the referee folder.

Friday and Saturday: All penalty shoot-outs take place on the field that the game (and extra time) is played on.

At the information meeting you will be given more information regarding penalty shootouts.

14. Balls – Linespersons flags – Send off cards
Balls and flags are available with the field guards. Both need to be returned to the same place immediately after the game.

Lost balls need to be found by the referee with the help of the players of both teams.

If you send off a player you need to fill out a send off card. These cards are also available at the field guard and need to be returned there when filled out.

15. Result cards
Result cards are very important – ”computer wise” to the control of the progression of the tournament.

Result cards can be collected with the field guard just before the game. You will find out then how long the game will be and the size of the ball to be used.

During the game make all of your notes on the card so that we (if needed) have proof of the final result of the game.
Every year we experience cases where the card shows the wrong game result and we wish to be able to avoid this happening.

Your job after the game is to fill out the front of the card with the correct information and hand it in to the field guard. It is very important that you remember to hand in the card at the end of the game so that we don’t have to contact the teams as to the result.

What you need to fill out on the front of the card:
„« Result of the game
„« The name of the winner or in the case of a draw then the word ”draw”
„« Your signature

If a penalty shoot out shall take place in conjunction with one af Thursdays game on one of the specially marked areas, then it is required to give the result card (at the end of the game and filled out) to one of the team leaders who takes the card to the penalty shoot out referee, who will in turn return the filled out card to the field guard.

At the information meeting you will be advised on the right way to fill out the result card.

16. Fair Play
Every year Dana Cup chooses a girl’s and a boy’s team that have made a positive impact in the Fair Play area.

As a referee you can also give a vote for a team that does a positive thing in a game in regards to Fair Play. You can fill in a green card with a short description of what the team did positively and in the name of Fair Play. If a team has been very negative you can fill in a red card

The card is collected and returned to the field guard.

17. Information Meeting
The information meeting will be held on Monday the 21st of July 2008 in the Bingo Hall (around 500 meter east of the central area – on the corner of Ringvejen and Grønnevold).

11:30am for English and German speaking referees
1:30pm for Norwegian, Swedish and Danish speaking referees

Here you will have the opportunity to meet and say hi to the other referees, and to be orienteered about the rules and other practical things as well as to answer your questions.

At 6.00 pm all referees are to meet at HI´s fields to be photographed. A bit later referees will meet at the Vendia Hall for the march into Hjørring Stadium.
